So, I stopped reading City of Bones for a while, but only because I got the second book in the Percy Jackson series. It's called The Sea of Monsters, and I'm already on page 100! Let me fill you in on what has happened so far.......
It starts off with Percy having a nightmare about Grover. He thought it was nothing too bad, just that he was worrying about his satyr friend, ever since he went to go and discover Pan, the God of nature and such. When Percy wakes up, he saw a figure by his window though, and got dressed as quick as he could and ran out of his room. When he got to school, he met his friend, Tyson there. When he got to school, everything was pretty normal. Now, Tyson is this really big guy, who always cries a lot. He doesn't have any friends other than Percy, and lives on the street in a refrigerator box. Anyways, at school, the big bully tells Percy he is gonna die at gym class. Percy remembers that his gym teacher promised them they could play dodgeball. Tyson was acting weird, saying that the bully's visiting friends smelled weird. Percy didn't notice. When they started playing, the visitors all the sudden started getting really big. Soon, they were yelling things like, 'die, Perseus Jackson!' Percy soon realized that these were not people, but monsters! Soon, the other kids realized something was wrong, because the monsters were now throwing giant balls of fire! Tyson was able to hit them off with his hands, which was very weird, since he was only human. Percy though to himself, 'I couldn't even make it through the last day of school.' Just then, Annabeth ran into the school, and pulled out Percy and Tyson. She took out a drachma, and threw it into the road. All of the sudden, a gray cab popped up. The three got in the cab, and started speeding off to camp. When they got to Half Blood Hill, giant bulls were running all around. However, they shouldn't have been able to go through there, because Thalia's tree was a protective force, but now, it wasn't working. When Annabeth and Percy went through, Tyson stayed back. Then, Percy was about to get run over by a bull, but Tyson stopped him. Once Tyson had gotten rid of the bulls, they entered camp. Everything was different, and people were sad. There was a sick-like feeling in the air, but no one knew why. When the three got to Chiron, they learned he was leaving, and that he had been fired because Thalia's tree was poisoned! The fill-in for Chiron was a prisoner from the Underworld, too! Once everyone was inside, Annabeth told Percy to really look at Tyson. When he looked, he saw that Tyson was really a Cyclops, and that he was probably a baby, hence the crying all the time. When it came to dinner, everyone gave their food to a certain God, and the new guy, Tantalus, tries to think of something to do with Tyson. However, when everyone is making fun of him, everyone starts to gasp. Percy is in awe as a glowing trident hangs over Tyson's head. This was the sign that Poseidon, Percy's father, was claiming Tyson as his son. Everyone was now going to make fun of Percy for this. But, Tyson is just so happy that he is Percy's half-brother, that he doesn't even notice the insults. Later on, chariot races were held. It started turning ugly though, when evil birds started picking away at everyone! They started crashing the chariots, and rigorously harming everyone. Then, Percy and Annabeth grabbed some awful music, and played it so loud that the birds flew away. The rest, well, Tyson got them. That night, Percy had another dream about Grover. This time, though, Grover actually contacted him. Annabeth and Percy really wanted to get a quest to go find him, because this may save the camp. But, Tantalus didn't let them. Instead, he was giving Clarisse a quest to go find him! Percy was starting to doubt that Half Blood Hill was going to be saved, and that since him and Grover were now linked, that he was going to die soon.
Visualization: In this, everything was very visual. I could see every little thing happening, like the birds pecking the people, and Percy playing dodgeball. I could imagine the fire balls being thrown at Percy, and I could imagine them running from the burning school. I could also easily see Percy realizing the Tyson was a Cyclops. Another easy thing to visualize was Percy at the camp when all the bulls were around. I could see everyone trying to fight them off, and I could also see the chariot races as well, with everyone falling over, and the horses galloping around.

Nice Blog! Looks great! Sounds like a really good book :)
ReplyDeleteThis is very well written. I learned a lot from just reading this!
ReplyDeleteI read this book too, and I felt the same way about the visualization. It's such an amazing book, and I love the Greek references. I hope you enjoy the rest of it.
ReplyDeletethank you all for commenting :)
ReplyDeleteI read this book also.... actually I have read all of the books in the series. I was wondering if you think Grover will die?
ReplyDeleteI just skimmed through the summary b/c I've read the book before but I read the visualization and it was very good. Nice job analyzing.
ReplyDeleteTaylor: I don't think Grover will die, just cause that would be unfortunate, and wouldn't Percy die as well?
